Songwritingzen.Com To Be Launched - May 1, 2008

I want to let you all know that I have a new blog. It’s the same name but different URL. It’s up at the moment. You can find it at www.songwritingzen.com

After today I won’t be posting on this blog anymore. All posts will be on the www.songwritingzen.com blog only.

When I started my blogging journey I had a blog called Corey Stewart Songwriting Tips on the Quikonnex network. That experience taught me a lot about what not to do and for that I’m very grateful.

I decided that this year that I would start up my songwriting blog again but using a different blogging platform. Hence WordPress and the birth of “Songwriting Zen”.

Learning the in’s and out’s of WordPress has been a very challenging experience but I know the decision to change blogging platforms from Quikonnex to WordPress has been a good one.

It’s also good to start again from a fresh canvas from time to time.

Shifting the www.songwritingzen.wordpress.com blog to www.songwritingzen.com was always my intention.

The advantages of me having a WordPress.org blog as opposed to a WordPress.com blog are too many to mention here.

Whether I have gone about this the right way or not remains to be seen. I hope that this transition is not a confusing one for all of you.

Of course, if you have any questions you can always contact me through this site, at songwritingzen.com or email me at corey [at] songwritingzen [dot] com.

I’ll still be keeping this blog alive as I’ve spent a lot of time registering it with RSS/Blog directories and optimizing it for the search engines. This blog will now be a pointer to the new one.

However, the most important reason for keeping this blog alive is that this is the foundation of a wonderful online community full of songwriters, writers, musicians and other creative types of all disciplines.

I’m really amazed at how quickly this community has grown. I love the interaction I have with everyone and I also love the interaction that the community has with each other.

The ability to network with others is so important no matter what field of creativity you work in. I’m very glad that through this blog and www.songwritingzen.com I can be a small part of that.

Before I sign off here I want to personally thank the following people who have taken the time to make their thoughts and feelings known on this blog. These people are the community that I speak about.

Here they are.

  3. Excellent Corey. Nice one :-)

    And thanks for the mention.

I’ll be keeping an eye on the latest blog for sure.

  4. You know, I’ve been thinking for a while now about making the move myself and after reading your post, I’ve decided to do it!

Thanks, Corey, for unknowingly giving me the little kick I needed - and thanks so much for allowing me to be part of your wonderful community.

  5. That’s great Jill. I’m glad that I could be of help to you albeit indirectly.

You’re right about this burgeoning Songwriting Zen community being a wonderful thing. I’m having a lot of fun and I’m so glad that you’re a part of it too.

  6. Thanks for the shoutout, that was an unexpected “good morning” that put a smile on my face! I just subscribed to http://www.songwritingzen.com/ by RSS, so I’m officially on board for your new posts. Can’t wait, keep up the great work!

  7. Hey Corey,

Good to hear about the new site.

Just some feedback as you make the transition: I noticed the new site loads much slower than this one. In fact, I just tried the new address and gave up to come here to post this info after looking at a blank screen for 15 seconds. Re-loading/re-trying to load the page didn’t work either.

UPDATE: Gave the new site another go and it did load, albeit with the slow load speed as previously encountered. FYI, this site always loads in 8 seconds to fully load. I am on a 6-12 Mb high-speed connection.

Hope you find this feedback useful.

    JP

PS. This is not a computer specific issue and was tested on two different high-speed internet connections.

  8. Sorry, some text got cut out by mistake in my last post. Sixth sentence should read:

“FYI, this site always loads in less that one second while the new site takes greater than 8 seconds to fully load.”

  9. Hi Kelley,

Thanks for the feedback. I’m glad the shoutout put a smile on your face. This is what community is all about.

  10. Hey JP,

Thanks for letting me know about the new site. I’ve noticed how long it took to load as well. I tried it today and it loads much faster now.

Don’t know what it could be. It maybe one of the external plugins I installed or it could be my host. I’ve checked with them but everything seems okay from their end.

Thank you for taking the time out to test the new site on two different connections and for getting back to me. I really appreciate it :)

  11. Hmmmm JP

I’m now getting a “database connection error” message when I try to get into SZ. I wonder what that means???

Did you experience this in your testing?

  12. JP

Should be all sorted now. DreamHost had some probs with my database server. The error message was the end result of their maintenance and re-booting.

Thank you once again for your time and patience,

    Corey :)

  13. Yup, loading fine now. Glad you got it sorted out!

  14. :D OK.. lets move to the new adress…
